That said, I enjoyed it (in spite of some of its pacing issues), and I got to drink a root beer float while I watched.
Blu-Ray helps with things like that, too.
Me: ::setting bottle down, opening the drawer and taking out the bottle opener with the left hand, while beginning to look at the instruction manual for a new point-and-shoot camera that Mum got on my recommendation1 with my right hand::2
Mum: NO, it’s too early for that! You said you were going to help with this stuff!
Me: …this is root beer. ::turns bottle to face her:: ¿Is that okay?
Mum: …well, it looks kind of like one [bottle of beer].
Me: ¿When was the last time I drank beer on a Friday, particularly here? ¡It’s Root Beer Float Friday! It doesn’t even have caffeine.
Mum: …it looks like a beer bottle. ::intentionally being stubborn::
Me: OH MAN, I’D BETTER SLOW DOWN, I’VE NEARLY FINISHED A BOTTLE.
Me: That’s it, I’m TOTALLY CUT OFF, now.
Mum: Hush. ::laughing::
Me: ::grinning:: No.
1. It’s an understanding that my parents insist on entrenching themselves in their own unawareness by barely going through the instruction manuals. On the occasions when I’m staying at their house, I’m asked regularly to set up or troubleshoot devices that I’ve never personally used for more than a minute in my life. I try to tell them that it’s because I read through and remember entire contents of instruction manuals, and that the rest of the time I use the internet or “Help” sections to assist in brainstorming around any problems that I don’t already know how to fix. I tell them this, and they occasionally listen to me. Emphasis necessary.
2. I frequently multitask, without necessarily pushing the limits of my coordination with the amount of focus that I’m employing. I only do this when my brain is really humming along, but it unnerves people that don’t even keep more than two tabs open, let alone plenty of others. I was a good server, in my time.
